Hey, friends.
Welcome to Happy Tales of Happy Tales. This week’s story comes to us from my friend Sierra.
Sierra is more comfortable writing than telling the story, so she has written it, and I will be
reading it to you from her.
So Sierra writes, “My dog Quinn is a five year old tricolor corgi. Quinn is her dad’s pride and joy.
I’d like to start with the fact that Quinn’s full name is Quinn Elizabeth, after her beloved Majesty
and Queen of Corgis, Queen Elizabeth of England. If that doesn’t tell you something about her
personality, I’m not sure anything else could. From the time she was little, her favorite activity
has always been fetch. Anywhere we go or anywhere we take her, we have to have a tennis ball
on hand so that she can play her favorite game. Quinn also is quite good at throwing the ball,
especially specifically at your face. It brings her so much joy. About a year ago, Quinn started
showing signs of a degenerative myelopathy and some orthopedic disease and deformities in
her front ankles. She has a hard time getting around, but is so full of life and still pretty spunky.
But as you can imagine, this has made her favorite game a little more challenging. Of course,
we’ve had to make some adjustments to make sure that playtime is still safe and
enjoyable.Throws have become shorter, Quinn is always on some type of carpeted area, and
playtime usually doesn’t last more than about ten to 15 minutes. It’s not as fun as it used to be,
but I think we both still find ways to make the best of it. Recently, my husband and I adopted a
new corgi puppy into the household. Since Corgis are notoriously known for being the low rider
of the dog world, we ended up getting some stairs for our couch so that she can enjoy relaxing
time with us. Well, Quinn has found this quite interesting. After a few days of watching her little
sister go up and down the stairs and run around and play, Quinn decided she would give it a go.
Much to our surprise, Quinn loves these stairs, but not for the reason you’d think. She’s found
out that the stairs make an excellent ball ramp. That’s right. No longer are the stairs meant for
climbing to the couch. Nope, these stairs are specifically meant to make ball time an extreme
sport. Quinn uses these stairs in two different ways. The first being a way to get our attention.
Quinn will physically throw her ball down the steps to our feet if we’re walking by so that we can
give her a toss. On your way to the bathroom? Nope. You’re here to trip over and consequently
have to throw a ball. She thinks it’s hilarious. Secondly, with the help of some super magical
supplements given to her by her vet, Quinn has decided that the stairs are now an opportunity
to make her dreams of becoming an obstacle course racer come true.If my husband and I are
sitting on the couch, Quinn will climb the stairs, throw the ball into our laps, wait for us to throw
the ball, and then we’ll run down the stairs as if they were a little slide, retrieve her ball and do it
over and over again without tiring. This girl is relentless. However, it has made us smile so much
knowing that a simple set of $50 stairs have made such a difference in her happiness and her
being able to interact with us. The stairs are engaging and have really shown us just how smart
she really is. Will we ever have a moment without ball time? Probably not, but that’s perfectly
okay with us.”
I love that story so muchI just can’t tell you how much I appreciate you sharing, Sierra. And just
love when we can see how smart they are and how resourceful they are and just how
committed they are to just being little sources of joy. And y’all, Quinn is adorable! So I will post
pictures of Quinn up on the socials so that you can see her cute little face and what a character
she is.
